Cannon Mate AE 808
All cameras are film tested, and any issues found are described below. Any photos you see in the listing are taken with this particular camera.
No, that isn’t a spelling error, this is a “Cannon Mate” branded camera. Part of the swarth so called “scameras” that came out in 1980’s.
So, it’s a knock off, but it does have a certain plucky charm to it. You couldn’t describe it as high quality, but it does sit in the hand in a pleasing way, and the results out of it are substantially better than I was expecting.
Not an everyday camera, but one to have a little fun with.
Lens: 35mm f/3.5
Film speed settings: 100-400 ISO, Manually set
Film Format: 35mm
Aperture: f/3.5
Focus: Autofocus
Battery: AA x 2
Flash: Built-in
Year: 1980 - Onwards
Country: Japan (Allegedly)
The good:
• For a 40-year-old camera, it is in remarkably good condition.
• Shutter fires well, and tested exposures reveal no timing issues.
• Focus is accurate.
• Film transport is smooth.
• Flash works as expected.
• Comes with a delightfully 80’s case.
The less good:
• The viewfinder has some minor dust ingress. This does not affect image quality, nor usability.
• The lens itself has a few specs of dust, but nothing that is noticeable in the final images (see attached sample photos)
• General wear and tear.
